A short video of our charity walk from Windermere to Carlisle Racecourse #walkingthewalk

Thanks to all sponsors who helped raise over £9,000 so far (including gift aid) for our walk last week.  You can still donate to try and help us hit the £10,000 target.

The project was organised by broadcaster John Hanley who also came up with the idea (accidentally!). John’s good mates Neal Foulds  (former number 3 snooker player in the world) and Andy Richmond (former number 3 punter in the world!) came along as did local councillor, 23-year-old Ben Berry who was in serious discomfort due to a broken leg.

In the vanguard throughout was James Phillips, star sports presenter on BBC Radio Cumbria. James was also a great help with publicity – we’re grateful to him and to BBC Radio Cumbria.

Peter Scudamore and Neale Doughty very kindly joined us and helped greatly in raising the profile.  Joe McNally tagged along as best he could.

We had a surprise and very welcome support team in the shape of Ben’s mum Diane, his aunt Tassy and valiant drivers of his support vehicle Ash and Emmanuel (Ben travelled in a motorised scooter kindly lent by Cumbriamobility.co.uk) . Chris Batten generously pre-planned the route for us and issued detailed directions – we’re indebted to him.

Carlisle racecourse staff welcomed us at the finish with chilled champagne and hot showers – a big thank you to them.
